FAQ

How to you get access to wildfires?

As a credentialed member of the press and a frequent contributor to newspapers, magazines, and TV outlets, Stuart has formal wildland fire training, full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which in conjunction with California’s media access law, allows him access into disaster areas, including wildfires. When photographing at a wildfire Stuart always has a media/press role, photographing images for anything from the press newswire, to local newspapers, to national magazines.

Many of the wildfire images you see on the site were shot during the course of arduous assignments in the fire zone. Stuart puts the safety of first responders first, then himself, and stays out of the way of firefighters doing their jobs. Once safety has been provided for, then Stuart makes pictures, but safety and staying out of the way of first responders is paramount.

Stuart additionally contracts with the federal government to photograph wildfires on assignment at various wildfire incidents and has formal wildfire training.

The following applies to orders from our store, all purchases help support the Terra Flamma project:

When will I receive my order?

All artwork is custom made to order. Unframed prints will typically ship within 3-5 business days of purchase. Prints under 13x19 are produced in-house and typically ship slightly faster. Limited edition prints, framed prints, and prints larger than 13x19 take 7-10 business days to ship. For in-house prints we make every effort to ship within 2 business days, but it is not guaranteed. Orders placed after 3pm PST Fridays will be processed the following Monday. Please note that orders placed on holidays will be delayed by a few days. For custom framing orders, shipment will take 14-21 business days depending on the specific print and framing size.

We use USPS Priority Mail for prints smaller than 13x19, which are carefully rolled into a sturdy mailing tube. For large format prints larger than 13x19 we use flat packing and orders will ship via FedEx Ground or UPS Ground (2-5 business days in the continental US) depending on customer location. International shipping varies by destination. Large framed prints (for example, 40x60) must be delivered by freight and delivery will be scheduled when the freight shipper reaches out to you (they will call ahead).

For rush orders or special requests, please contact us at studio@stuartpalley.com

Do you Offer Framing?

Yes, please contact us for custom framing for your art. We partner with a local framer and offer an array of options to suit your taste and décor.

What is your process for printing?

Depending on print size, artwork is either printed in-house at our studio (up to 13x19), or with our longtime large-format family owned printer nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park (13x19 and larger, metal prints).

All prints are made to order, and signed by Stuart. All prints 13x19 and smaller are printed on archival luster paper. Limited edition and large format prints bigger than 13x19 are printed on exhibit/museum quality fine-art matte photo paper that will hold color for decades or more given proper storage and viewing conditions.

Please refer to individual product pages for limited edition information and sizing.

I’d like to order a print and have it framed locally, what are the dimensions of the printed image areas?

Most prints have a white edge around them. For example, an 11.5x17 print will be made on a 13x19 sheet, leaving a .75-inch x 1.5-inch border around the print. For 20x30 prints the border is approximately 2x3 inches on a 24x36 inch sheet, and for 40x60 inch prints, 44x66 inches, or 2x3 inches. Due to the custom nature of each piece, measurements may vary slightly.

Custom Sized Prints:

Custom print sizing is available for any prints you see on the site. Custom sizing ranges from 13x19 to 44x66 inches. Please email us at studio@stuartpalley.com for custom size and image requests.

Are prints signed?

All limited edition and open edition prints are signed by Stuart.

How do I know if my artwork is authentic?

All limited edition prints include a numbered certificate of authenticity corresponding to the edition number of the print. We also keep secure and highly accurate records of all limited edition prints to ensure that we maintain the integrity of limited edition prints. Once a limited edition sells out in a given size, that print is no longer available in that size.

Do you offer commissions or custom prints?

Stuart is available on a limited basis for commissioned work and custom prints. Please contact us at studio@stuartpalley.com for inquiries.

Why did a price change?

We reserve the right to change prices at any time for any reason. Typically limited edition print prices will increase as the edition sells out to reflect the increased demand and increasing rarity of the image.

Can I purchase a high-resolution image to print on my own, or license your work to print?

We do not offer licensing or downloads of images for third parties to print. For commercial or editorial licensing, please contact us at studio@stuartpalley.com
